For Instants

Lately I'm making an effort to capture the little, even unremarkable, instants in my life. I used to share more candid snapshots in "life lately" photo diary posts, which are so much fun to look back on. But the truth is that I have mixed feelings about these kinds of posts; sometimes they feel like a rather self-indulgent, aesthetically pleasing facade. So many day-to-day instants are not photogenic: the rose plant on my desk is dying despite my best efforts, I'm currently sporting a cowlick in my left eyebrow, and I regularly live up to my nickname "clumsy cat." Nevertheless, as selective and slanted as these posts can be, I love to read them on other blogs, because at their heart is an appreciation for the little things that might be meaningful memories someday. So, here are just a few instants of just the good things...

01 | Fruit mille-feuille, chosen from a local bakery and shared while watching Blue Jasmine. Have you seen it? I loved it (Mr. E did not), everyone can agree that Cate Blanchett was amazing, and I can't stop thinking about how much the film reminded me of Fellini's Nights of Cabiria...

02 | My little ball of tartan, who loves to nose-dive into the snow and then make little snow angels. This was taken on what was probably the last snow day for a long time.

03 | A few things I've reached for frequently this week: YSL Babydoll for very curled lashes. Essie's Ballet Slippers, a polish so pretty I tolerate the fact that it needs three coats and chips within three days. A (second?) copy of George Orwell's 1984 to (re?)read... I honestly can't remember reading this book, though I'm convinced I did! And the faux sheepskin rug from IKEA that, chances are, you own too.
