fresh is a skincare brand that always tempts me, mostly (I confess) because of the pretty packaging. All fresh products create the illusion that your bathroom belongs in a Provençal villa, a daydream I just can't resist. Aesthetics aside, here are my thoughts on three best-selling fresh products I've been sampling recently.
Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream: (reviewed in full here) This lightweight day or night cream is a great option for normal to combination skin types. The "Super 7 Complex" is a mixture of plant-based ingredients, including lotus flower extract, which defends against free radicals; blue-green algae to preserve collagen and elastin; and vitamin C to boost collagen production. The cream does not contain parabens, sulfates, phthalates or artificial fragrance, and no ingredients stood out to me as particularly awful. My one critique of this product is the pot packaging, which looks adorable on the bathroom counter but isn't particularly hygienic.
Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil: This rich facial oil contains a blend of several oils, including seaberry (sea buckthorn) oil, cranberry seed oil, camellia seed oil, grapeseed oil and sweet almond oil. These deliver a boost of omegas-3, 6 and 9 to the skin, leaving it supple and hydrated. As a huge fan of facial oils, this one is a very nourishing addition to my collection.
Soy Face Cleanser: After many people recommended this product to me, I finally tried it last year, and I never got around to telling you that I enjoyed it. This extremely gentle cleanser is formulated for all skin types. It has a gel consistency that doesn't really lather but removes all your makeup. It contains amino-acid rich soy protein to maintain the skin's elasticity, rosewater and cucumber extract to calm, and borage seed oil to hydrate.
Overall, fresh products perform well without irritating my skin. However, as someone with a preference for more natural skincare, I must acknowledge that fresh is not a natural brand: they spotlight their botanical-based ingredients, but their products also contain chemical additives. On a positive note, they have reformulated their products in recent years to avoid certain nasty chemicals. I wish they'd go all-natural, in which case, I'd fill my bathroom with their products.
